We want to be able to trust the people around us. We want to feel safe. We want to believe they mean what they say and will do what they say they are going to do. Few things leave us feeling more unsettled than having someone completely disregard or reverse the rules we felt certain everyone had agreed upon. Saying or doing one thing and then saying or doing the complete opposite like an infuriating betrayal and can make someone seem like an untrustworthy manifestation of chaos. What it really means is that something else matters more to them than the surface stated issue.
All our decisions and actions are driven by some motivation within us. We always have a reason for anything we do. Some of those reasons are deeply rooted and immensely important, others are essentially whims of the moment but from central core values to casual amusement there is always a reason providing the spark and the fuel.
The more fully and honestly we understand ourselves the better grasp we have of our inner motivations. The clearer picture we have of what truly matters to us the easier our decisions and choices are to make. That doesn’t mean the choices themselves, or our lives in general, become easier. What becomes easier is our ability to identify, recognize, and realize what options are most right for us, what is most in keeping with…
