How Much Progress Happens Without Us Taking Action?

None.

If we don’t ask, the answer will always be no. Those who do not make choices will have their choices made for them. Forward motion requires movement. An inch of movement gets us closer to our goal than a mile of intention. You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start in order to be great. Nothing will work unless you do. You are what you do not what you say you will do. Simply put, in order to achieve something we must act.

It seems such a simple cause-and-effect formula. Take action, achieve result. And yet it is one we so often fail to activate. Despite knowing at a core level we can only achieve the results we desire by taking action we all too commonly spend our energies generating excuses instead.

We are creatures of comfort and habit. We feel safest with the familiar and are predisposed to seek out the least amounts of discomfort and exertion. We prefer to keep doing what we have always done and would rather not work any harder than we have to.

The trouble is, we are also creatures of desire and novelty. We don’t like change but we crave the new and exciting. It is a dichotomy which traps us time and time again, locking us into a cycle of unactivated and unfulfilled desires yearning but mired in an endless supply of excuses.
